What a roller coaster these last few weeks have been. Between the ongoing disappointments, lay-offs, and cancellations from Disney, the bad news just never seems to end. In the six months that they've owned Star Wars, we've had ONE (arguably) good piece of news: a rumoured new animated series called Star Wars Reclamation. I'm taking this news with a grain of salt. Given everything which has happened so far, I would not be surprised to see this cancelled in a month or so, too.
I have an entire blog entry written out on paper (which has been in my bag for over a month) with some ongoing concerns of mine about the state of the fandom, the fans, and the non-fans, and I shall be posting that up in the near future, with some added commentary about the shutting down of Lucasarts. For now, though, I want to move onto some (finally!) good news...good NEIMOIDIAN news!
A couple of days ago, my work and this website were featured in an article at the Star Wars Prequel Appreciation Society, and I could not be happier! I can't say how appreciative I am about it; we are now on their permanent blogroll! Not only is Semper Neimoidiana getting some exposure, but Neimoidians, themselves, are getting some deserved spotlight. I'm amazed at how positive the response has been. When I began this Neimoidian Crusade a few years back, they were in a horribly negative light. In the last year, with the revelation of my life-sized Neimoidian, my magazine cover, and, simply being able to share my daily Neimoidian/Duros experiences, I've had nothing but support, and I can't even begin to say how happy I am. I've had several people tell me that they now look at Neimoidians differently AND more positively. THAT alone, makes everything worth it, to know that the bias against these beautiful and unloved beings is slowly beginning to fade. And I'm so honoured that I could be a part of that process.
Today, John Lund from Iowa left me this lovely comment:
I never thought I would meet someone who loved neimoidians as much as I! I too have a little shrine of my Nute/Niemoidian/Trade Federation collectables. My favorite is a signed letter by Charles Ross, the one man Star Wars guy, promising to do Nute justice if he ever does a one man prequel trilogy. I just have to ask. As beautiful and talented as you are...I am assuming you are married. At the very least in a serious relationship, right? You can't blame a guy for asking, right? :) With Great Admiration, John Lund Atlantic, Iowa
First off, thank you SO much for such a kind comment. I'm glad to see another fan out there; I'd love to see that letter of yours! I'm very flattered, but, unfortunately, I'm going to have to disappoint; I am, in fact, taken :). In fact, my significant other is surprisingly okay with my life-sized Neimoidian! Since you're such a fan as well, why not come and join my Neimoidians and Duros page on Facebook? It's growing by the day and is a very friendly and fun community, and we'd love to have you!
I'm going to leave you all with some updates to look out for. My collection page hasn't been updated in months...but don't think for a second that I've stopped collecting. I've got so many new things to add: cards, prototypes, sketches, etc. Just yesterday, I went on a big Duros spree, and found some great items, so there's going to be a massive update to the collection in the very near future. I'm also thinking of doing either some blog entries, or at least a section in each entry, where I show one of my Neimoidian/Duros items, and talk a bit about it: how I got it, how rare it is, what it means to me, etc. Let me know if that's something you'd like to see!
For now, may the Force (and Neimoidians) be with you!
